New Generic Images Category

We have a new category aimed at the bulk of image uploads.

Images must have a contextual bearing on the region or country they were taken in, or apply to. If they do not, then we have a Generic Image category; this category will handle the bulk of images where, due to limited background or contextual information or detail they could apply to any region or country in Africa or anywhere for that matter.

This would apply to about 80% of image uploads, it would include most animals photographed in a confined, non-descript background; close-ups and macro images, abstracts, objects or food that is not region specific, interiors and so on.

If an image can not be identified with a specific country, region or place and does not include an identifiable place or landmark, it should be included in the "Generic Image" category space in both the main category and sub-category menu's.

To all our PhotoStockAfrica Shooters

Here is the challenge:

The shooter with the highest number of new image uploads will receive a $ 100.00 deposit into their PayPal account.

The second highest number of new image uploads will receive $ 50.00 deposit into their PayPal account.

The third highest number of new image uploads will receive a $ 25.00 deposit into their PayPal account.

To be eligible for a place you will need to submit more than 200 new image uploads

The competition will start on the 1st of April 2010 and end on the 31st of May 2010, winner will be announced on the 4th of June 2010

To enter you will be required to;

open a PayPal Account
notify us by return of email confirming you are an entrant

Include the following information in your email to us:

Your name and display name
Confirm you have a PayPal Account - Send us your PayPal email address

You will receive an email at the start of the competition confirming the number of images you currently have. This number will signify your zero point in the competition.

Please adhere to the following rules and standards:

A minimum of 200 new images will have to be approved to qualify for a place.
Images will be subject to normal quality control ensuring, adequate sharpness, composition, artifacts, noise and overall applicability to the aims of PhotoStockAfrica.
Inspect all images at 100% before uploading, make sure they are free of noise, dust, and scratches.
Subject matter must be varied, do not enter the same image with slight variations on the angle.
Populate the title; description, keyword, and categorization fields correctly and in English.
No - date stamped or framed images.
No snapshots. We do not accept photos with heavy shadows from the on-camera flash. Make sure your images have a clear topic and focus. Do not send dark or muddy pictures.
Don't send 10 pictures of your family pet.
Don't send the same image in color, black and white, sepia, and blue tone, or similar shots when only one works, colour is enough.
Don't send images that we already have a lot of, contextualize your images, we want to see they are from Africa, and of African landmarks, business, industry, people etc. no images of flowers, or objects, unless they are in an African context, or theme.
Consider your composition carefully.
The judges decision is final.
No correspondence will be entered into.
Prizes money will be only be transferred into a PayPal account.

These guidelines will not only improve our site, it will improve the quality of your portfolio and will increase the probability of sales for you well into the future.
